Our backgrounds are in bioinformatics, genetics, software development, and mathematics. As a Bioinformatics Engineer you will work at the core of the Platomics team, where you have the opportunity to directly influence the way how personalized medicine is going to impact the future.

We are continuously expanding our portfolio of NGS-based Genetic Tests and bioinformatics pipelines. Our bioinformatics development teams work on highly tested and stable analysis pipelines that are rolled out at a large scale into the clinical routine. Due to the high impact each analysis can have on a patients life, we need to understand and test every detail of an analysis in order to make sure the right decision is made for the benefit of the patient. In this setting, we are looking for highly motivated individuals, who want to help us improve Genetic Testing for millions of people.

What you will do:

  • Develop and implement new approaches and algorithms for the clinical interpretation of NGS data

  • Optimize and improve bioinformatics pipelines for clinical use

  • Critically analyze large NGS datasets using in-house tools and build custom tools when needed

  • Write highly stable, tested and documented code for a medical application

  • Closely collaborate with other Bioinformaticians, DevOps and our Software Engineers

  • Actively contribute to and maintain a fast evolving codebase

  • Stay up to date with the state of the art in clinical genomics and NGS

What you will need:

  • Deep knowledge of NGS technologies (preferably Illumina or PacBio sequencing)

  • University degree in a computational life sciences discipline or 5+ years of experience working in bioinformatics role

  • Constant learning and willingness to stay in touch with the latest developments in genomics

  • Familiarity with writing code, preferably with Python

  • Knowledge of Version control systems (e.g. github, GitLab, bitbucket)

  • Familiarity with workflow management technologies (e.g. nextflow, airflow) or HPC management systems (e.g. SLURM, SGE)

  • Communicative and proactive attitude - you can work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

A big plus is:

  • Experience in working with clinical NGS data

  • Familiarity with Sequence Variant analysis and Variant Classification frameworks (e.g. ACMG-AMP)

  • Knowledge of the algorithmic workings of modern variant calling packages (preferably GATK)

  • Professional development experience with Python

  • Experience with Docker or other containerization systems

  • Experience with CI/CD

  • Proficiency in Linux and bash

  • PhD in bioinformatics or molecular biology

  • Publication record and demonstrated scientific problem solving skills
